Dawson Ruhl
Chief Executive Officer
Dawson joined CHILD Australia in March 2008. With academic qualifications in Psychology and Social Work, he has worked in the human service field for over 30 years as a family and relationship therapist and more recently in a variety of executive management positions. Prior to joining CHILD Australia Dawson was the CEO of a child and family service in Canberra where he established a suite of early childhood programs including an attachment clinic. He was also the Principal Mediator of the Family Court of Australia and the Director of the Family Court of Western Australia’s Counselling Service. As a practitioner, he has worked in a variety of sectors including substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, and early childhood. He has been involved in many community development and social justice initiatives including the setting up of a state-wide domestic violence criminal justice reform initiative in WA; and initiating an early intervention child protection service while at the Family Court of WA. Dawson was born in the US and raised in a small mid-western town on the Mississippi river. He has been an Australian citizen since 1977.

Marc Spradbury
Chief Financial Officer
Marc joined CHILD Australia in 2007 as the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for managing finances and support services. Marc has 27 years’ experience in the accounting and auditing field. His career started as an auditor in public practice and then expanded into other senior finance positions within the commercial sector in South Africa and Botswana. His first experience with ‘not for profit’ organisations was with the YMCA of Perth, holding the position of Finance Manager for 7 years. Marc enjoys the family friendly culture of the ‘not for profit’ sector and the positive impact it makes to the communities it serves. Marc is currently on the Board of Youth Legal Services as Treasurer. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Sara Hinchley
Senior Manager - Programs
Sara commenced employment with CHILD Australia in July 2006 as the PSCWA Coordinator and is now Senior Programs Manager. Previously, she worked for 15 years in the childcare industry as both a qualified caregiver and centre coordinator, and had also set up a childcare service. She worked as a National Childcare Accreditation Council Validator for 4 years travelling throughout Australia assessing childcare centres. She has also travelled in Europe experiencing the different cultures of the childcare industry. In England, shemanaged and implemented play schemes primarily set up for employee sponsored organisations. Sara notes the Australian childcare industry has experienced significant changes and increased accountability through the National Quality Assurance systems and the state/territory regulatory requirements. The current PSC programs seek to provide innovative and creative approaches in delivering professional development and support and Sara looks forward to her continuing involvement in this area and supporting services to implement the new Early Years Learning Framework.
Abby Fry
Senior Manager - Communications
Abby joined CHILD Australia in January 2009 as Senior Manager - Communications. Abby has over 12 years experience developing and implementing Communications Strategies for a variety of organisations. These cover a diverse range of business areas from not for profit associations, the arts and media through to property and financial services. Through Abby’s experience in creating and implementing communications plans she has developed skills in strategic planning, writing, market and consumer insight and branding. Abby’s project management and organisational skills have been honed through managing and prioritizing large volumes of marketing collateral within the fast paced nature of the advertising industry. Abby has a degree in English and Politics from the University of Western Australia. She has a particular interest in social justice organisations and the positive impact they have in the community.

Cathy Hewick
Senior Manager - Programs
Cathy joined CHILD Australia in 1996. During that time she has held a variety of positions including Inclusion Support Worker, Outside School Hours Care Coordinator, Team Leader of South Metro team, Manager of the North Metro Inclusion Support Agency (NMISA) and her current position as Senior Programs Manager. Prior to joining CHILD Australia, Cathy worked in childcare in Perthand in Ireland. Her background is in nursing -specialising in disability, with a post graduate diploma in behaviour management. Her areas of interest are children, disability, play and social justice.
