Advocating for Single Governance Structure for Early Childhood in Western Australia

In August 2009 directors and CEOs representing 15 major peak bodies, stakeholders, professional associations and service providers from the early childhood sector in Western Australia wrote to the Premier and the Minister for Education in support of the COAG early childhood reform agenda and advocating for an independent Office of Early Childhood to play a key role in the reform process.  No response was received.

In April 2010, following the release of the March 2009 Education & Health Standing Committee's Report entitled "Invest Now or Pay Later - Securing the Future of Western Australia's Children", a second group of signatories again representing a number of major early childhood peak bodies and community organisations wrote once more to the Premier and three Ministers (Minister for Education; Tourism; Minister for Health; Indigenous Affairs; and Minister for Child Protection; Community Services; Seniors and Volunteering; Women's Interests) advocating for one Ministerial portfolio with responsibility for early childhood education, care and health.  On 8th July 2010 an official response was recieved from the Office of the Premier.

CHILD Australia and its fellow signatories from the abovementioned correspondence will continue to lobby the Premier's office for a whole-of-government response to the National Quality Agenda and the creation of a suitable governance structure to support the implementation of the National Quality Framework.
