Let’s Read 2018
Let’s Read was developed by the Royal Children’s Hospital Centre for Community Child Health, Melbourne. The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and The Smith Family have been implementing Let’s Read with communities across Australia
Let’s Read is designed to be delivered in stages; at 4 months, 12 months, 18 months and 3½ years. The program uses a number of platforms, including DVD and on-line content, tip sheets, suggested reading lists, as well as one to one assistance and book packs.
It has a comprehensive range of quality English language books suitable for age groups 0-5 years. In addition, Let’s Read has worked with publishers to ensure access to a range of popular titles for Indigenous children and in dual languages in order to engage families, who come from a non-English speaking background, in reading. Let’s Read has resources including tip sheets in nine languages (English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Greek, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Spanish and Italian).
Let’s Read has also been delivered successfully to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in communities across Australia.
Free Resources – these resources include tip sheets, book lists and books to help engage their children in literacy activities. The resources, coupled with the advice provided by educators, help parents to guide and support their children’s early literacy experience.
