Quality Area 5 focuses on relationships with children being responsive and respectful and promoting children’s sense of security and belonging.
Relationships of this kind free children to explore the environment and engage in play and learning. These relationships provide a solid foundation from which to guide and support children as they develop the self-confidence and skills to manage their own behaviour, make decisions and relate positively and effectively to others.
When children have positive experiences, they develop an understanding of themselves as significant and respected, and feel a sense of ‘belonging’. Relationships are the foundations for the construction of identity— ‘who I am’, ‘how I belong’ and ‘what is my influence?’
