Rough and Risky Play
Facilitator: Child Australia
To teach is to know 100 ways to learn, however, when it comes to rough and risky play we often find ourselves saying things like – be careful, hop down, you might hurt yourself. This session will ask you to take a look at your teaching practices around risk and to be open to the benefits of allowing children to engage in rough and risky play.
Reflecting upon what ‘play’ and ‘risk’ meant to us as children, we will:
- Explore the changing landscape of children’s play
- Explore the changing landscape of children’s play
- Discuss attitudes towards ‘risky’ play
- Complete a risk/hazard assessment of your environments
- Agree upon practical strategies to support learning
