Child Development: 0 – 30 months

To construct meaningful curriculum for young children, educators need to have a sound understanding of anticipated learning trajectories for many different ages, while understanding that all children will develop and learn at their own pace. 

For children from 0 – 30 months there is a rapid period of growth in every domain.  The importance of attachment and relationships in early development is highlighted.  Drawing on a range of theories and approaches to curriculum will inform educators about realistic expectations for children, recognise where extra support is needed and guide planning and curriculum approaches.

Certificate of Competence awarded on completion of course.

Learning Outcomes:

• Review a variety of child development theories.
• Review understandings of developmental milestones through discussion & application to theories – relating in particular to the EYLF Developmental milestones document.
• Investigate play theories and the educator’s role.
